Downstairs there’s a gallery of hand-embroidered art that looks like oil painting until you get close, and the silk-worm-to-thread demonstration upstairs is worth the visit on its own. It suits travelers who want a made-to-measure piece done fast, and anyone curious about how silk actually gets made rather than just sold to them.
Custom polo shirts and collared shirts can be measured, cut, and finished in as little as 3 to 5 hours, with delivery to your hotel for a small extra fee. Pants run around US$70. Off-the-rack dresses and embroidered art pieces are also available for those who don’t want to wait. Open every day of the week, and the workshop area gets busy when tour groups come through.
The embroidery art is the real standout here, striking work with layered dyes and thread that create depth you don’t get from a print. Tailoring quality is inconsistent though – some walk away thrilled with a same-day shirt, others get pants with ignored measurements and fittings that go nowhere. Bring your own fabric burn test if silk authenticity matters to you, and compare scarf prices online before paying in-store since identical ones turn up cheaper elsewhere.
