The Mansion Hoi An
Description
The Mansion trades on Moroccan-inspired decor and a colonial villa aesthetic that photographs extremely well. Some guests get exactly what they see – clean rooms, friendly staff, bicycles, and a location that puts you within easy reach of the old town and the beach. Others arrive to find damp, musty rooms that smell like they’ve been sealed since 2015, a pool that isn’t actually usable, and wifi that cuts out at midnight (when you need it most).
The inconsistency here is the real issue. Upper-floor rooms overlooking the pool seem to be the genuine article – quieter, better maintained, and closer to what the photos promise. Ground-floor or street-facing rooms are a different story, with noise from the road and a dampness problem that no amount of air conditioning fixes.
Ask specifically for an upper-level room when you book, and verify what’s actually included before arrival. The breakfast and bicycle situation appears to depend heavily on which version of the hotel you encounter on any given day.
Highlights
- Location works well - close enough to the old town, also convenient for the beach
- Staff described as friendly and helpful by multiple guests
- Reasonable prices if you book early
- Photos and advertised amenities (pool, breakfast, bikes) don't reliably match what you actually get on arrival
- Street noise is a real problem - the doors offer almost no soundproofing
