Lantern workshop by Pineapple
Description
A lantern-making workshop run by a woman called Pineapple (and sometimes Bamboo), tucked down a quieter street away from the main tourist drag. You pick your shape (sunset, sunrise, moon, or diamond), your size, and your fabric from a genuinely wide selection of patterns and colors – then you actually make the thing yourself with hands-on guidance throughout.
Two class formats: a one-hour short session where you assemble a pre-made frame, or a longer workshop where you build the frame from scratch. The longer one is worth it if you have the time. Lanterns fold flat to pack, and Pineapple will deliver them to your hotel once the glue dries if you can’t wait around (which is a nice touch).
The instructors speak good English and are patient with kids and total beginners. Walk-ins are usually fine, but showing up right after breakfast gives you the best shot at starting immediately.
Highlights
- Wide choice of fabric patterns, shapes, and sizes - you're not just picking from two options
- Lanterns fold flat and are travel-friendly; hotel delivery offered once they dry
- Works well for families with kids and walk-in groups with no advance planning
- No specific cons surfaced repeatedly in reviews, though the quieter street location means you may need to look it up before wandering
