Tan Phat Restaurant
Description
Tan Phat is the kind of local spot that earns repeat visits within the same trip. The Vietnamese pancake (bánh xèo) is the best version many visitors find in the country – not greasy, properly filled, served with two dipping sauces instead of the usual one. The crispy fish, ginger chicken noodles, cao lau, and grilled snapper all pull their weight.
Prices are low enough to feel slightly absurd given the quality. Staff speak solid English and will actually explain the menu rather than just hand it to you and disappear. They start you off with salted peanuts, which sounds minor but sets the tone.
Sidewalk seating on the main road works fine on weeknights when traffic is light. The staff do wave at passersby to drum up business, which some people find charming and others find grating (you’ll form an opinion fast).
Highlights
- Multiple reviewers returned the following day or visited several times in one trip
- Friendly, attentive staff who explain dishes clearly in English
- Strong across the menu - cao lau, crispy fish, ginger chicken, grilled snapper all get specific praise
- Main road location means some ambient noise, though manageable on quieter evenings
