“Lồng Đèn” Restaurant
Description
Lồng Đèn sits on the Thu Bon riverfront near the old town, with a veranda that puts you right over the water. The setting does a lot of the work here – lantern-lit, tastefully Hoi An in its decor without tipping into kitsch – but the kitchen backs it up with solid Vietnamese cooking and plates that actually look as good as they taste.
The morning glory salad with shrimp and the fried spring rolls are the moves. Prices run higher than the average pho shop on the corner (this is not the place for a 50,000 VND bowl), but the portions and presentation justify it for a proper sit-down dinner.
Service gets called out specifically and repeatedly, with staff like Harry and Yuna earning names in reviews – which is either a sign of good hospitality or very motivated employees. Either way, you’re unlikely to be ignored.
Highlights
- Vietnamese dishes consistently praised - the morning glory salad and spring rolls in particular
- Attentive, friendly service (specific staff mentioned by name across multiple reviews)
- Decor feels authentically Hoi An without overdoing it
- A couple of reviewers found the food 'ok' rather than exceptional, so results may vary on the dishes you order
