Quán Cao Lầu Thanh does one thing and does it right: cao lầu, the thick wheat noodle dish that you can really only get in Hoi An (the water and ash used to make the noodles are allegedly sourced from a specific local well, which is either romantic or a great marketing story). The portion sizes are flexible – tell them small and they’ll actually give you small, which is rarer than it sounds in Vietnamese noodle shops.
The staff are the kind of warm that doesn’t feel performed. A reviewer mentioned they offered to carry luggage to a nearby hotel, and another had their juice order turned into a custom four-fruit blend on request. This is a place run by people who seem to actually enjoy having you there.
Prices are low, the space is clean and tidy, and turnover is fast. This is a lunch or early dinner spot, not somewhere you linger over a second coffee.
