Papa Shark Beach Restaurant Hoi An

Description

Papa Shark sits on Ha My Beach, which is quieter than the An Bang circus, and that alone is reason enough to make the trip. The menu swings between Vietnamese classics and Western beach food – ceviche, avocado toast, teriyaki, pizza – and the hits hit. The ceviche in particular has earned its reputation.

The kitchen can struggle under pressure. Drinks sometimes arrive in the wrong order, and a banh mi once apparently took two hours (the beach chairs are comfortable, but not that comfortable). Go on a slow afternoon rather than a busy holiday lunch and you’ll have a much better time.

Prices are noticeably lower than the more tourist-worn beaches nearby, and the beachfront setting does the job without any fuss. Staff are generally warm even when stretched thin.

Highlights

Insider Tip
Order the ceviche first thing - it's the kitchen's strongest dish - but ask about spice level upfront because it runs hot, not just 'tourist spicy'.
Pros
- Ceviche is consistently excellent and worth ordering
- Food quality sits well above the average beach restaurant in the area
- Prices are reasonable, especially compared to An Bang or Cua Dai
- Staff are friendly and well-intentioned even when service gets chaotic
Cons
'- Service timing is unpredictable - drinks and food can take much longer than expected, especially when busy
- Some menu items (pizza, rice dishes) are underwhelming compared to the standouts
Best For
Budget, Couples, Solo traveler, Ocean view
