Hattrick’s Irish Sports Bar
Description
An Irish sports bar sitting out near An Bang beach, about 10 minutes from the old town – which is exactly far enough to keep the tourist hordes away. Every TV is running sport, there are multiple lounge setups in front of different screens, and the two Irish lads who own it actually care whether you had a good time (Danny will remember your name a year later, which is either impressive or slightly unnerving).
The food punches well above what you’d expect from a sports bar. The Parmo (a Teesside classic, for the uninitiated) and the Spice Bag get called out repeatedly, and at least one reviewer flew straight back the next day for round two. Guinness is poured properly, which matters more than people admit.
They’ll stay open past closing if there’s a match running, which is the kind of policy that turns a one-time visit into a month-long habit. A reviewer spent four weeks at An Bang and went back for every single Formula 1 race – that’s the clearest endorsement this place is going to get.
Highlights
- Food is good - the Parmo and Spice Bag are the moves
- Owners are hands-on and will flex closing time around live events
- Proper Guinness, proper atmosphere, no pretending
- Programming leans heavily toward rugby and football - one reviewer found zero baseball, basketball, or NFL on the night they visited
