Cua Dai Beach
Description
Cua Dai sits about 5km from Hoi An Old Town and runs quieter than the stretches nearer Da Nang. Long rows of wooden loungers under palm-leaf umbrellas are the main draw – rent one, order a cold coconut, and settle in for the day without much hassle from crowds or touts. Mornings bring locals out exercising along the sand, and the light at either end of the day is the best reason to time a visit.
A sunbed and umbrella run around 30,000 VND, freshwater showers about 10,000 VND, and parking beside the beach is free if you arrive early. Beach-club seating with food service costs roughly 4 euros a head. Bring cash – the coconut stalls and snack vendors along the shore do not take cards, and staff at the seating areas will wave you over well before you have decided to sit down.
The water is the part to check before you commit. Severe erosion stripped this coastline for years, and the sand-pumping and embankment work that followed has widened long sections of it back out, so conditions vary by stretch and by season – flat and clear on a good day, murky after storms. Some stretches now sit behind resorts and private beach clubs and are not really public any more. If you land next to building work, walk a few hundred metres; the rest of the beach stays calm and usable.
