Description

Lanh runs this lantern workshop on Cam Nam, a quiet spot across the river from the Old Town crowds. You build a traditional silk lantern by hand – bamboo frame, silk wrap, tassels and all – not a pre-folded kit you just decorate.

The class runs 1.5 to 2 hours and costs 290,000 VND (about $11), which covers materials, welcome tea and a carry bag for the finished lantern. Kids 6 and up are welcome, and private group bookings are available. Instruction is in English, with Vietnamese available on request.

You leave with your own foldable lantern and a care guide to keep it in one piece once you’re home.

Highlights

Pros
- Hands-on the whole way through: you shape the bamboo frame and wrap the silk yourself, not just decorating a pre-made shell
- About $11 covers materials, tea and a carry bag for the finished lantern
- Small groups and private bookings, good for kids or a couple wanting one-on-one instruction
- Quiet Cam Nam location, away from the Old Town lantern-shop foot traffic
Cons
- Booking ahead is required - it's a small operation, not a walk-in shop
- One lantern per person is included, so it's a keepsake activity, not a souvenir-shopping stop
Best For
Families with kids, Couples, Small groups
