Ancient House Coffee Shop
Description
An old wooden mansion in the heart of the old town that does double duty as a coffee shop and cocktail bar. The egg coffee is legitimately the best version many people find in Vietnam, and the happy hour buy-one-get-one cocktails (the Manhattan and the Hoi An Full Moon both get specific praise) make this one of the better value stops in the area.
The space is an open, traditional house with fans running hard instead of air conditioning. It works. The family who runs it is warm, musically inclined (the instruments on the walls are actually played), and the staff will cheerfully photograph you inside and outside the building.
The drinks are the main event here. Cakes are reportedly average, but the mango lassi and fresh coconut are solid alternatives if you want something non-alcoholic beyond coffee.
