Ba Le Market
Description
Ba Le is a working local market a short walk from the tourist drag, used by the same neighborhood vendors who’ve been selling there for decades. Afternoons are best for fresh fish and vegetables brought in by local women from surrounding areas – it’s the kind of market that actually feeds the town rather than performing for it.
The produce is fresh, the prices are real, and vendors are genuinely friendly toward repeat customers. Two months of daily shopping is a reasonable endorsement (that reviewer was onto something).
It’s smaller than the main An Hoi market, which either suits you or it doesn’t. Tour groups do cycle through in the mornings, so if you want it at its most local, go in the late afternoon when the fish sellers arrive.
Highlights
- Good fruit selection and fresh produce
- Cleaner and more relaxed than the Old Town tourist markets
- Authentic daily-use market feel, not staged for visitors
- Morning tour groups dilute the local atmosphere somewhat
