French House Restaurant
Description
A French-Vietnamese hybrid spot in the old town that leans hard into hospitality. The staff – particularly Ngan and Houng – are the kind of servers who remember your name, which matters more than you’d think when you’re navigating a menu that jumps between pho, com ga, spring rolls, and sizzling platters.
The Vietnamese staples are the safe bet here. The beef pho gets called out specifically, the com ga rice is flavourful, and the spring rolls do what spring rolls should do. The sizzling dishes come with a bit of tableside theater if that’s your thing.
Skip the curry. One reviewer was not subtle about it (watery, no heat, wrong on multiple levels), and when a dish gets that specific a takedown, it’s worth listening. The espresso martini, however, is made properly – no condensed milk, actual technique.

- Clean space with good indoor seating for afternoon heat
- Sizzling platter comes with presentation flair that reviewers appreciate
- Menu range is ambitious, and not every dish earns its spot on it
