GOLDEN NUT HOI AN RESTAURANT
Description
Golden Nut sits near Cua Dai beach rather than in the Old Quarter scrum, which is either a selling point or an inconvenience depending on where you’re staying. The owner runs the front of house herself and is the kind of host who comes out of the kitchen with a turmeric root to explain your dish – not as a performance, but because she actually wants you to understand what you’re eating.
The chicken salad and golden nut spring rolls are the obvious starting points, but the duck and cao lau are just as worth ordering. Vietnamese pancakes come with a tutorial if you ask nicely (or even if you don’t).
Happy hour runs 2-for-1 on drinks, which pairs well with the relaxed beach-adjacent atmosphere. Service can run a little slow during busy periods – this is a small family operation, not a machine, so adjust your expectations accordingly and enjoy the extra time with your drinks.
