Cross the Hoang Dieu bridge away from the old town crowds and you’ll find Guitar Hawaii, a riverside bar run by Tam – a musician who plays 10 instruments and will, without much prompting, pick up a guitar and perform original ballads for whoever’s in the room. The space itself is decked out in futuristic art and interesting lighting, which sounds chaotic but somehow works.
This is one of those places where you can walk in for a drink and end up on stage. Tam keeps a full kit of gear including a drum kit, and he’s happy to jam with anyone from solo travelers to entire family bands. His mother handles the cocktails, and she is not shy with the spirits.
The honest caveat: foot traffic hasn’t fully recovered post-Covid, so some nights it’s quiet. That’s either a problem or a feature depending on your mood.
