Hoi An Ancient Remedy
Description
A dim sum tea house in the Old Town that takes the format seriously – think duck pancakes, salt and pepper tofu, bao, and countryside noodles with pork and shrimp rather than the usual pho-and-banh-mi circuit. The room is a step up from the typical backpacker spot, and a live saxophonist shows up some evenings (either a nice touch or not your thing, depending on who you are).
The staff get consistently high marks across the board – attentive, friendly, and good at steering you toward the right dishes. Prices run a little higher than the street-food end of town, but the kitchen delivers, and that gap closes fast when the food is actually this good.
Vegetarians do well here, with enough options that it’s worth the trip even if you’re skipping the duck. Outdoor seating exists but comes with slower service – sit inside if you want things to move.
Highlights
- Food quality stands out as some of the best meals visitors had in Hoi An
- Strong vegetarian options alongside the meat dishes
- Service is quick for a busy spot (at least when seated inside)
- Outside seating comes with slower service and difficulty flagging staff down
