Hoi An Heart Restaurant
Description
A riverside restaurant on the Thu Bon that gets the fundamentals right: good local food, fair prices, and staff who actually seem to enjoy their jobs. The top floor has river views, and the front benches overlooking the boats are the best seats in the house (though those appear reserved for drinks only, which is annoying).
Order the cao lau, the banh xeo, or the grilled eggplant with soy sauce. The beef in bamboo with pepper sauce and the pork in coconut broth have their own dedicated fan base too. This is a menu worth working through slowly, which is probably why people keep coming back for second and third nights.
The staff – Hanh, Thu, Yumy among them – get mentioned by name repeatedly in reviews, which tells you something real about the service culture here.
Highlights
- Staff are consistently friendly and attentive, with several named servers earning repeat mentions
- Local dishes are well-executed and priced fairly for the quality and location
- The menu is broad enough that repeat visits feel worthwhile
- Front bench seating appears limited to drink orders, which will frustrate anyone wanting a meal with that view
