Joy Restaurant is a small family-run kitchen in Hoi An serving home-style Vietnamese food, and it’s now also known as Húòng Vi Viêt since it’s tied to the cooking school right behind it. That connection explains why everything tastes so fresh – the owner cooks and serves customers herself, and she’s happy to give food suggestions if you’re not sure what to order. It suits couples, families with kids, and anyone staying nearby who wants a relaxed, unhurried meal.
Order the Vietnamese pancakes and spring rolls – both are standouts and among the best versions in town. The pumpkin soup, grilled beef satay, fried rice, red snapper, and mango seafood salad are all cooked well and come in generous portions. Fruit juices are a highlight too, poured into chilled glasses and priced around 35 VND. Skewers and stir-fried noodles are hit-or-miss, so lean toward the pancakes, soup, and seafood instead. If you order lobster or other seafood, ask the price first since it runs higher than the rest of the menu.
This beats most of the other tourist-facing restaurants nearby on freshness and value, especially compared to hotel restaurant prices. It’s not fine dining and a couple of dishes taste average, but for a clean, friendly, budget-friendly meal near your hotel it’s a solid pick. Skip it if you’re after inventive or high-end plating – come here for well-cooked classics instead.
