Kim Hien tailor
Description
Kim Hien is a working tailor shop – meaning the clothes are actually cut and sewn on the premises, not farmed out somewhere across town. That matters more than you’d think in Hoi An, where plenty of shops take your order and your money and then hand it off elsewhere. Kim handles everything herself, and she’s particularly good at swimwear (custom bathing suits are something most tailors quietly avoid).
Kim herself has the kind of personality that makes a fitting feel less like a transaction and more like an afternoon with an opinionated aunt who happens to be very good at her job. She’s patient, speaks solid English, and will talk you out of a bad fabric choice if you let her. Turnaround can be fast – some pieces in around a day – though complex orders need more time built in.
The fabric selection covers a solid range of materials and colors, including silk if you’re after something dressier. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and she’ll take careful measurements even when you give her unusual requests (the ‘I’m going to lose weight, please account for that’ kind).
