Minh Hien Vegetarian Restaurant
Description
Minh Hien sits down a quiet back alley a few minutes from the Old Town, and the location filters out exactly the kind of crowd you don’t want around you at dinner. It’s a family operation, the menu is huge, and the cooking is serious – banana blossom salad, aubergine in clay pot, mushroom in banana leaf, pumpkin with peanuts. These are not afterthought veggie dishes.
The set menus are good value and take the decision fatigue out of navigating that long menu. Cooking classes are also available, and the owner has been known to open early on request (that’s the kind of place this is).
Non-vegetarians eat here and leave confused about why they ever bothered with meat. The coconut coffee alone is worth the walk.

Insider Tip
Order the banana blossom salad and at least one clay pot dish, then check the set menus before ordering à la carte - they often work out cheaper for two people.

- Walking in as the only customer mid-afternoon can feel a bit awkward (it's fine, they're welcoming)
