Phố Hội Lantern Workshop
Description
A workshop on the lantern street near the market where you build a silk lantern from scratch – bamboo frame first, then fabric, then paint. The whole thing takes about an hour and costs 150,000-190,000 VND including a drink, which makes it one of the more honest value propositions in the old town.
You pick between pre-printed fabric or plain fabric you paint yourself. The staff walk you through every step and are genuinely patient, including with tired kids and solo visitors who show up at 4pm asking if there’s still time.
The lanterns flatten down to fit in a bag, so you’re not trying to carry a full-sized lantern through the rest of your trip (a detail that sounds small until you’re at the airport).
