Sports Bar, An Bang beach
Description
Sports Bar at An Bang is exactly what it sounds like – a dedicated sports watching venue with multiple screens (six at last count, plus a big screen) that actually cares about showing whatever code you’re into. The beer is legitimately cold, which sounds like a low bar but somehow isn’t always a given around here.
The food leans into the owner’s apparent Kiwi/British sympathies – think pies, fish and chips, pie and mash. When the kitchen is on top of it, people are happy. When it’s not, orders get quietly abandoned without anyone telling you (budget an extra hour if you’re hungry, or eat before you come).
The owner is a character and will talk your ear off, which is either a pro or a con depending on your mood. Best suited to groups who are there for a match first and a meal second.
Highlights
- Good number of screens with enough variety to keep a group happy regardless of sport
- Atmosphere during live matches is energetic and social
- Owner is friendly and hospitable on arrival
- Can get very noisy (fair warning if you're not there for the match)
