U Cafe Hoi An
Description
U Cafe sits on the riverside away from the old town chaos, and that distance is the whole point. Japanese-owned, it has been running for over a decade with the same calm energy – fish pond upstairs, river views, the occasional frog in the background. This is not a place you pop into quickly.
The egg coffee gets specific praise, and the traditional phin drip coffee is done properly (aluminum filter, the old way). Service is slow because the staff is small, so arrive knowing you are going to sit for a while whether you planned to or not.
The crowd here tends to be people who have already done the Ancient Town loop and want somewhere that does not feel like a tourist set. Vietnamese regulars have been coming back for anniversaries for years, which tells you something about the place holding its standard.
Highlights
- Egg coffee and traditional phin coffee both done well
- Atmosphere has stayed consistent for over a decade
- Green views including river, distant mountains, and a fish pond upstairs
- Service is slow by design (small staff, unhurried pace - not ideal if you are on a schedule)
