Board Riders Bar, Surf & Travel
Description
A surf school and bar combo run by Eddie and Nathan, two guys who clearly care more about whether you had a good time than whether they look cool on Instagram. The surf lessons run to a quiet beach spot (good for first-timers who don’t want an audience), and the instruction is patient enough that people who’ve never stood on a board actually manage it.
Back at the bar, the draw is cold draught beer and toasties. Quah makes the toasties, and they’ve developed something of a cult following – the chicken sandwich with pickles is the move (extra pickles, specifically, per multiple regulars).
The whole place runs on the kind of local knowledge that takes years to accumulate. Show up for a beer, leave with surf lessons booked and three trip recommendations you didn’t ask for but absolutely needed.
Highlights
- Surf lessons work well for complete beginners - quiet beach, patient instruction, everything included
- Toasties (especially the chicken with pickles) have a real following for a reason
- Cold draught beer in a shaded, low-key setting
- If surf conditions aren't right, lesson availability can shift around
