Hội An Night Market

Description

The Hoi An Night Market runs along Nguyen Hoang Street on the An Hoi peninsula, right across the bridge from the Ancient Town. It’s the obvious evening move after you’ve walked the old town, and the lantern reflections on the Thu Bon River are worth stopping for – even if they have become very Instagrammed.

The stalls lean heavily into clothing, souvenirs, and street food. The knockoff brand t-shirts have developed something of a reputation for surprisingly decent fabric quality (your friends won’t believe you, apparently). Arrive earlier rather than later – vendors start packing up before the crowds fully thin out.

This is not a quiet, contemplative experience. It is loud, compressed, and full of people making the same loop you are making. Accept that going in and it becomes fun rather than frustrating.

Highlights

Insider Tip
Go Sunday through Thursday to avoid the worst of the weekend crush, and aim to arrive around 6-6:30pm when stalls are fully set up but the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds haven't peaked yet.
Pros
- The lantern reflections on the water are a legitimate visual payoff, especially on calm nights
- Clothing quality at the stalls runs better than typical market expectations
- Atmosphere stays lively even on slower nights with fewer stalls open
Cons
- Extremely crowded, especially on weekends - personal space is not part of the offering
- Arriving late means a noticeably reduced selection of stalls
