Lantern Making Class
Description
Phi runs this lantern-making workshop away from the old town crush, which means you actually get proper attention instead of being herded through with a tour group. She walks you through each step, has a solid range of fabric choices, and is apparently infinitely patient with glue-related disasters (this comes up a lot in reviews).
The class runs about an hour and you leave with the lantern you made plus a small pre-made one thrown in. Size matters here – if your suitcase has room, go for the larger lantern. The small ones are easy to carry but the bigger ones look better once you get them home and lit up.
Note that there are no bulbs included, so if you want to actually light your lantern you’ll need to source one separately. You can also just buy lanterns here without doing the class, and the prices are reasonable either way.
Highlights
- Away from the busier streets, so the pace is relaxed and you often get what feels like a private class
- You leave with two lanterns: the one you made and a small one included in the price
- Good fabric selection and plenty of customization options
- The space is small, so larger groups may feel cramped
