BamBou Restaurant and Cooking Class
Description
BamBou sits on Tran Nhan Tong Street and does two things well: serves generous, well-executed Vietnamese food in a good-looking bamboo-themed space, and runs cooking classes with chefs Hue and Hong who actually make the experience worth your time. The alfresco seating is the right call when the weather cooperates.
The menu runs local classics alongside Western options, and the cao lau reportedly holds up against what you’d get from the old-guard spots in the Ancient Town (high bar). The salted coffee is made with proper strong coffee, which sounds obvious but isn’t guaranteed everywhere.
Pricing is reasonable for what you get, portions are large (this is a warning, not a boast), and the bar team – Trinh in particular – takes cocktails seriously. Staff names come up repeatedly in reviews, which usually means the service is consistent rather than luck-of-the-draw.
Highlights
- Staff and service quality mentioned consistently across almost every review
- Food quality covers the range well, from cao lau to seafood pasta
- Cocktails and salted coffee are executed with care
- The mix of local and Western food won't suit purists looking for a strictly Vietnamese menu
