Đông Ốp La
Description
Đông Ốp La is a family-run breakfast spot down a narrow alley, serving the thing it’s named after: op la, a fried egg cooked on a sizzling cast iron plate with pork and beef meatball, served with a banh mi roll for soaking up the mess. The omelette looks greasy because it is greasy, and that is exactly the point. Order it, use the bread, and don’t skip the chilli sauce on the table.
The menu is short – eggs, beef stew, bun, coffee – and that’s a feature, not a flaw. A family of four eats well here for what amounts to pocket change, and the food comes out fast. The couple running the place are genuinely warm without being performative about it.
Vegetarian options exist, the black coffee is properly bitter, and the beef broth is worth getting alongside your op la if you want the full spread.
