Su Retreat Hoi An
Description
Su Retreat sits on the river about 20 minutes by bike from the old town, which is exactly far enough to feel like you’ve escaped without actually being stranded. The aesthetic leans into warm wood, golden light, and Vietnamese classical touches – the kind of place that makes you slow down whether you planned to or not. The pool area is well-maintained and peaceful, not the sort of place where someone’s playing bluetooth speaker at full volume by 10am.
The staff here are the real differentiator. Multiple guests name individual team members – Ruby, Sue, Alice, James, Amy, and others – which tells you these aren’t scripted interactions. Honeymooners in particular get looked after well (expect surprises if you mention the occasion at check-in).
The morning yoga and lantern ceremony are worth doing, not just ticking off. Breakfast gets consistently strong reviews, the spa treatments are solid, and the bike rental situation makes the distance from town a non-issue.
Highlights
- Quiet and calm environment, noticeably removed from the noise of the old town
- Rooms are modern, clean, and well-designed with a warm Vietnamese aesthetic
- Pool and grounds are well-kept and relaxing
- No strong feedback on any single weakness, though the distance means it suits slower-paced trips better than busy itineraries
