Morning Glory Original
Description
Morning Glory is the kind of place that earns its reputation through sheer volume and consistency rather than charm. The open kitchen on the ground floor puts the chaos on full display, and dishes like nem lui and lau cau are worth ordering. The banh xeo and white rose dumplings are solid picks too, and the menu is long enough that you could eat here three nights running without repeating yourself.
The balcony is the better seat – cooler, quieter, and you get to watch Nguyen Thai Hoc street do its thing below. Ground floor gets smoky and hot from the open kitchen, which is either atmospheric or miserable depending on your tolerance. Service moves fast because it has to, not because anyone is particularly delighted to see you.
Book ahead. This place fills up early and the wait for a walk-in table is real.
Highlights
- Service is fast - food arrives quickly even when the place is packed
- Menu range is wide enough to satisfy a table with different preferences
- Banh xeo, white rose dumplings, and eggplant dishes consistently land well
- Some dishes (chicken rice has come up) can be small, cold, or underwhelming relative to the price
- It gets loud and crowded; this is not a relaxed dinner spot
