Châu Kitchen & Bar
Description
Châu Kitchen & Bar sits in a sweet spot between proper Vietnamese cooking and crowd-pleasing Western options (the clam pasta and spaghetti bolognese exist, and people order them). The Vietnamese dishes are the reason to come – specifically the cao lau, pork clay pot, braised chicken with purple rice, and whatever they’re doing with eggplant, which converts people who claim not to like eggplant. The room is warm and intimate, the kind of place locals actually eat rather than just tolerate tourists eating.
Prices are reasonable for the quality on the plate, and the pork ribs have their own fan club among people who’ve been around Hoi An long enough to have opinions. Kitchen closes at 10pm, so don’t show up at 9:45 expecting a full meal.
Service is generally attentive and kind – ask for Giang if you want someone who knows the menu. On busy nights the staff can be stretched thin, which means flagging someone down takes patience. Worth it.
